Statistics show that the more comfortable a woman is with her caregiver, the better the outcome. We at Morning Star Birth Center believe that getting to know each other is essential for an optimal working relationship. That is why we view the initial visit as an "interview", where both the midwife and the future mom will have ample time for open question and answer interaction.

While you interview your midwife as of her education, experience and credentials, she will be screening for risk factors and will explore your reasons for choosing an out-of-hospital birth.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to get a feeling of how your personality and philosophy blend with those of your midwife. Ideally, there would be several midwives available in your area for you to interview, and this is a normal and recommended process.

It is our common goal to achieve the best birthing experience possible for you, so don't be afraid to ask for referrals of other midwives in your area. However, if after your initial visit you are simply elated and confident, then go with it!

Additionally, if you have health problems that preclude you from having an out-of-hospital birth, or you have decided that it just isn't right for you, then we will do our best to refer you to a family-friendly medical facility.
